The Centre for Psychiatry has research interests in psychiatric epidemiology and social psychiatry (dealing with both aetiology of psychiatric disorder and health services evaluation), cultural psychiatry, liaison psychiatry and forensic mental health. Current research focuses on aetiology of common mental disorder, particularly examining the role of social factors, and on explanations for inequalities in mental health in adults, psychomatic illness and mental health in ethnic minorities. There is also strong interest in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, conceptual issues and research methods in social and community psychiatry, aspects of personality and psychotic illness and offending behaviour.
