Centre for Cancer Prevention

Project Investigator:  Dr Sam Smith

Funding Bodies:  Cancer Research UK and Bupa Foundation Cancer Prevention Inititative

The Incorrect Beliefs About Cancer (IBAC) study aims to develop a measure of erroneous or mythical beliefs about the causes of cancer.  Using a series of small studies involving members of the public and experts in the field, we will develop a valid and reliable psychometric tool for these purposes.

The project will culminate in a nationally representative survey of the UK public to identify the prevalence and correlates of these beliefs.

Funding for the project was awarded jointly to Dr Sam Smith and Dr Lion Shahab (UCL) by the Cancer Research UK / Bupa Foundation Cancer Prevention Inititative.
