The main research work of the Centre can be summarised under the following headings:
- Epidemiology of Hormone Related Cancer Group (Head: Professor Jack Cuzick)
- Cancer Screening Evaluation Group (Head: Professor Stephen Duffy)
- HPV and Cervical Cancer Group (Head: Professor Peter Sasieni)
- Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory (Director: Professor Attila Lorincz)
Additionally, the Centre runs two major international breast cancer prevention trials, IBIS-I and IBIS-II:
The Centre has also recently seen the creation of the Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) which is the only clinical trials unit in the UK to specialise in trials for the prevention of cancer.
Finally, the Centre’s researchers are involved in a number of related projects either as lead investigators or in collaboration with other groups:
- Flexi-sig: Trial of flexible sigmoidoscopy for colorectal screening
- Early symptoms in ovarian cancer
- ATAC: Anastozole or Tamoxifen in hormone receptor positive breast cancer
- CADET-2 : Computer aided detection in mammography screening
- FHO1: Breast screening in young women with a strong family history
- Feasibility of lung screening
