Profile

Robert is a molecular geneticist with a long-standing interest in recombinant DNA technology. He has written,
with Primrose, one of the most read and authoritative books on DNA molecular methods (Principles of Gene Manipulation. Fifth edition, ISBN 0-632-03712-1, 417 pages. Blackwell Science, Oxford).

His principal current interest is antenatal screening for fetal chromosomal abnormalities using cell-free plasma DNA. He has had a role in developing antenatal screening methodology using semiconductor-based DNA sequencing. Current research includes exploring the human genome to enable novel approaches for DNA-based screening. Recent research in other fields includes novel antibacterial compounds and cancer immunotherapy.
