Peter Sasieni

I am Professor of Biostatistics & Cancer Epidemiology and Deputy Director of the Centre for Cancer Prevention.  My research is in medical statistics and cancer epidemiology.

I studied mathematics at Cambridge (1981-4) and gained my PhD in biostatistics at the University of Washington (1989).

I joined the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) in 1989 working in the Mathematics, Statistics and Epidemiology Laboratory headed by Jack Cuzick: first as a post-doctoral research fellow (1981-92) then as a research scientist (1993-7) becoming a senior scientist in 1997.

Following the merger of the ICRF with the Cancer Research Campaign and the creation of Cancer Research UK (in 2000), we (Jack Cuzick's department) moved to Queen Mary in 2002 where I was appointed Professor of Biostatistics and Cancer Epidemiology.

My research has evolved from mathematical statistics to cancer epidemiology.  I have worked on evaluating cervical screening and studying human papillomavirus (HPV) testing. I have two Cancer Research UK programme grants for Cancer Screening & Statistics and for the Cancer Prevention Trials Unit of which I am director.
