Profile

My research to date has primarily centred on evaluation of treatments for personality disorder.

I conducted my PhD research on modelling process-outcome associations in dialectical behaviour therapy for borderline personality disorder, and have also worked on a randomised controlled trial of dialectical behaviour therapy versus treatment as usual.

The high levels of self-harming behaviour within this patient group have led to a broader interest in how services manage self-harm, which has developed into a qualitative project on patient and staff experiences of constant observation for suicide risk on inpatient wards.

Another area of interest which has evolved from this work is the very high prevalence of traumatic childhood events and complex post traumatic stress disorder in this patient group, which has led to the development of a multisite project evaluating the effect of post-traumatic stress disorder on the treatment of personality disorder.
