Katharina Seewald

Dr Katharina Seewald studied psychology and criminology at the Universities of Konstanz (Germany) and Monterrey (Mexico). With her thesis focusing on psychometric properties of a newly developed risk-assessment instrument for violent and sexual offenders she achieved her Master’s degree in psychology in 2012.

She completed her PhD in October 2015 on effectiveness of offender treatment delivered by the Department of Forensic Mental Health Services, Office of Corrections in Zurich, Switzerland, where she was employed as a research fellow in the Evaluation and Development Unit.

At the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, Charité University Hospital in Berlin Dr Seewald has also been working in a mixed-method multi-site project to evaluate process issues and effectiveness of correctional treatment in prison settings and in the preventive detention unit. There, her main research interests included social climate in prison and its associations to treatment related variables such as attitudes towards treatment and stages of change.
