Profile

Until I joined ICRF (later Cancer Research UK) in 2001 I had worked mainly in the NHS as a State Registered Nurse/RN. I gained experience in Ear, Nose and Throat nursing, care of the elderly, HIV and Genito-Urinary Medicine.

At Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals I took over the management of the small colposcopy clinic within the Sexual Health department. I became very interested in cervical screening and colposcopy as a result of this, and it also gave me my first experience of data management when I worked with IT staff to develop a database to replace the paper-based system.

In 2001 I joined Dr Szarewski's Cervix Studies team as a data management assistant and research nurse. Since then I have been involved in a number of research studies in the field of cervical cancer prevention: comparison of HPV assays in screening and referral populations, technical evaluation studies, the 'Patricia' and 'Viviane' HPV vaccine trials, self-sampling for HPV in routine screening and in women who do not attend for screening.

I create and manage the databases for our own studies, using Excel, Access and Oracle.
